About Us
The University of California Davis is a prestigious research university known for its roots in agriculture. How can such a university not have an organization dedicated to a sport directly associated with agricultural and western traditions? Of course, the sport I am talking about is rodeo. The U.C. Davis Rodeo Club was first established on campus about 30 years ago but due to insufficient funds, had to be shut down. In 2009, the Davis Rodeo Club was reborn once more. The club was approved as an official campus organization for the 2009-2010 year and is committed to bringing members of the U.C. Davis campus and surrounding communities together to celebrate our agricultural roots and to recognize our western way of life through educational events, barbeques, rodeos, and other competitions. The officers of the club are President Christine Haas, Vice President Amanda Powell, Secretary Haylee Senita, Treasurer Spenser Perloff, Event Coordinator Meagan Schwall, Historian Carly Stevens, and Faculty Advisor Dan Sehnert. Membership is open to everyone, and no experience or equipment (including horses) is required, just an interest to learn about rodeo in a fun, informal setting. The club attends local rodeo and gymkhana events and hosts rodeo clinics for members to get hands-on experience in events such as barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, and roping. Our next task is to hold clinics for all events and group practices at the UCD Horse Barn. Thanks to the officers and members, the Davis Rodeo Club is finally back and thriving at U.C. Davis.
